Gear lamp

Gear lamp was developed for The Cabinetmakers’ Autumn Exhibition 2025, held at Thoravej 29, under the theme Transformation. The project takes its starting point in the classic fluorescent fixture often found in industrial and workshop environments, where the technical construction is clearly exposed and unpretentious. The archetype is reinterpreted through a mechanical gear system that integrates rotating shades into the lamp’s load-bearing structure. Through this construction, the shades can be rotated around the light source to adjust the direction and distribution of light — from focused downlight to uplight or a wider dispersion within the space. The transformation is both constructive and spatial. Movement and adjustability are embedded as fundamental principles in the lamp’s structure, and changes in configuration directly affect the character of the light and the perception of the space.
