Grønnegården's Pavilion

In this project, we have made a design proposal for a pavilion to Designmuseum Danmark´s garden, Grønnegården. The museum was originally built in 1757 as the first public hospital in Denmark and it was designed by the famous architect, Nicolai Eigtved. Eigtved designed the hospital rooms as long galleries based on the dimensions of the hospital beds. To connect the pavillons to the architecture and the building’s origin, we have reused this bed format and made it form the core of the pavilions. The final proposal consists of 10 pavilions which can be used both as seating areas and as stands for one-day or weekend exhibitions. The construction is inspired by a traditional frame saw. This technique, we have further developed so it forms a graphic signature that tightens and stabilizes the entire construction.
